Visit any high school classroom in America and you will probably find many girls doodling designs of dresses, shoes, jewelry and other clothing, or flipping through fashion magazines. Designing your own clothing line is a frequent day dream which rarely becomes a reality. Carla Pelosi is one of the lucky exceptions. She is truly living a dream with her BULLY clothing line.
THE BEGINNING
With my first business, Shoe Dolls, I designed and distributed crystal flip flops throughout Arizona’s specialty boutiques. I enjoyed this experience and wanted to expand beyond footwear. From there I began selling other clothing lines, but still I wanted something more…something unique.
INSPIRATION
Like many women, I have always loved fashion, clothing and staying current with the latest trends. My friends and family would always say, “Well, look in Carla's closet to see what’s in style.” This ah-ha inspiration was the beginning of my clothing business named ‘Carla’s Closet’ which now includes my private-label clothing line, BULLY.
ADVICE FROM A FRIEND
We all learn what we are made of when we face adversity. It was the advice from a friend that gave me the courage and confidence to take the leap and create BULLY. A private-label clothing line is not something that everyone gets to do, and I’m thankful for the support and unconditional encouragement that I’ve received along the way. I could have never done it all on my own.
FAVORITE PLACES TO SHOP
I grew up in New Jersey. Only living a bridge away, I’ve always loved shopping in New York. It’s true that the City inspired my affair with fashion and appreciation for fabulous clothes. Now that I am living in Arizona, I’ve been making frequent trips to the West Coast. I really love hitting the LA streets and shopping in their local, unique boutiques.
AT HOME
With three boys, it’s hard to dress them in much more than t-shirts and shorts – although I must admit that they are super trendy T’s and shorts! As long as they can still shoot hoops and kick a soccer ball at recess, then they are happy.
